Founded in 1945 in Mittersill at the foot of the Grossglockner, Blizzard has always been a technological pioneer. As early as 1957, Blizzard was the first to use metal and fibreglass in its skis and was also a pioneer in the P-Tex bases that are still in use today. However, this innovative strength not only brought them medals in alpine racing. With Lois Collomb-Patton's and Leo Slemett, they also won victories on the Freeride World Tour.
Blizzard's history with freeride skis in particular began around 2011 with the Cochise 106. When Arne Backstrom joined Blizzard in 2009, he was not satisfied with the rocker skis on the market. He felt that the skis were too tightly shortened and did not perform well enough.Together with Blizzard, he developed the FlipCore technology, which was all about optimising the flex of the ski and improving contact with hard snow. This worked so well that Blizzard quickly made a name for itself among freeriders who liked to go fast in all conditions. In addition to the aforementioned Collomb-Patton and Slemett, these included riders such as Marcus Caston (Return of the Turn) and Johan Jonsson (shitfuck skiing), a quasi-native of Engelberg.
